eBay fees, explained

eBay charges one final value feewhen your item sells. It has two parts: a percentage of the total amount of the sale (item price plus the shipping you charge the buyer, plus applicable taxes) and a fixed per-order fee (0.30 for orders up to 10.00, otherwise 0.40, in your site's currency).

The percentage depends on the category. Most US categories pay 13.6% up to $7,500 with 2.35% on the portion above; UK rates are set per category, from 6.9% on select tech up to 14.9% on jewellery. Some categories switch rate at a threshold instead, US athletic shoes at $150 or more pay a flat 8% with no per-order fee at all.

Sellers whose performance drops Below Standard pay surcharges on top, and eBay Store subscribers can pay less in some categories. This page shows the standard business rates, the numbers that apply to most sellers most of the time.

How much does eBay take from a $100 sale?+
In most US categories eBay charges 13.6% of the total sale plus a $0.40 per-order fee, so a $100 sale costs $14.00 in fees and you receive $86.00. Category exceptions apply, pick your category in the calculator above for the exact number.
How much does eBay take from a $10,000 sale?+
US most-categories fees are tiered: 13.6% applies up to $7,500 and 2.35% to the portion above it. On a $10,000 sale that is $1,020.00 + $58.75 + the $0.40 per-order fee = $1,079.15 in fees.
What is the eBay per-order fee?+
On top of the percentage fee, eBay adds a fixed fee per order: $0.30 / £0.30 for orders of 10.00 or less and $0.40 / £0.40 for orders above 10.00. A few categories waive it, for example US Athletic Shoes sales of $150 or more.
Do eBay fees apply to shipping?+
Yes. The final value fee percentage is charged on the total amount of the sale, which includes the item price, the shipping you charge the buyer, and applicable taxes.
Are UK eBay fees different from US fees?+
Yes, materially. eBay.co.uk business-seller rates are set per category (many at 12.9%, media at 9.9%, select tech categories at 6.9% up to £1,000), while eBay.com charges 13.6% in most categories. The calculator carries separate verified tables for each site.
What is the $600 rule on eBay?+
It is a US tax-reporting threshold, not a fee: payment processors report gross sales to the IRS on Form 1099-K above the threshold. It does not change what eBay charges you on a sale.
Do eBay Store subscribers pay different fees?+
Often yes, store subscriptions can lower final value fees in some categories. This calculator shows standard business rates without a store subscription, which is the common case for sellers starting out.
